Update Monitor Driver

If you game regularly or like to watch videos and have encountered some problems with your display settings then there are a few things you might need to do.

One of the first things that you should try to do is to update the monitor driver. How you go about it will depend on the type of monitor you have.

For some monitors it might be better to find a driver specific to the particular monitor. A driver that is designed especially for a specific monitor may work better than a Windows or other operating system driver that is built in to your computer. For some monitors you might need to use software to update the monitor driver.

Installation Disc

If your monitor came with an installation disc then you might want to reinstall the driver. This may be the best way for you to update the monitor driver. Try this first before manually installing a driver or finding a driver online.

Model Specific Driver

You might want to check with the manufacturer for a specific driver. You should find a section on the customer service website that allows you to download software and drivers for your monitor. A free driver website can help you do this.

If this option is available to you then this is the best way to update the monitor driver. Every website is different but you should be able to find instructions that detail what you need to do. These two options should be explored first when you are trying to update the monitor driver.

Manually Updating

If you are unable to update your monitor driver using installation software or the manufacturer’s website then you will need to do this manually. The process is a little different depending on whether you are using Windows Vista or Windows XP. If you are using Windows Vista you will need to start by clicking on start and typing Device Manager in the search box.

If your operating system is Windows XP then go to My Computer after clicking on the start button. Now go to Properties and click on Hardware. Next click on the Device Manager. You will see monitors listed under the device manager. Now double click on the monitor to find the name of the monitor.

Then click on the driver tab, you will have the option to update the monitor driver. You should be connected to the Internet before proceeding with the next step. Choose the option for your computer to automatically search for software that will update your monitor driver. Your computer will search either the operating system or the Internet for software that will update your monitor driver.

If you have a driver disc then you can update your monitor driver differently. Instead of allowing the computer to automatically search for driver files choose to browse your computer for driver software. You will see a window that says Install from Disk open up. Put the driver disc into the removable media drive. You will see a blank field with Copy manufacturer’s files from in front of it. Type the driver letter in here, for example (E:).

After doing this you want to click Browse and look for the monitor driver that will come up in the Local File window. Click open on the file you need and then click next. Finally click Finish, and you should have successfully update your driver. Remember after you have finished doing all this to reboot your computer or all your hard work will be gone and you will have to start all over again. Updating your driver should solve any display issues that you have with your monitor.
